Easter crafts - decoupage eggs

Hi crafters! If you are looking for a crafty way to brighten up your home decor over Easter then decoupage easter eggs are a great idea. They don't take too much time or effort, they are fun to do and they look really pretty.

I started out with some polystyrene eggs that I bought from Sainsbury's (polystyrene is very lightweight so good for hanging wherever you like really, but you could also use plastic or wooden eggs, or real eggs but they're not going to last very long). I painted each egg with a base layer of white paint to give a smoother surface and something for the papers to stick to a bit better than bare polystyrene.

Next I tore up the decoupage paper into small pieces. I am using these beautiful decoupage papers from Craft Consortium.

Usually the recommendation is to use postage stamp sized pieces, but as the egg is curved and I didn't want the pieces to wrinkle too much I used smaller bits. I put glue underneath and then added the paper on top and smoothed it down with more glue until the egg was covered.

As you can see I used the plastic wrapper the eggs came in as a palette for my glue so I didn't have to bother washing anything up afterwards #win.

James gave me these cool hook things to stick in my eggs so I could hang them up around the place. I just sort of stabbed it in the top of the egg before the decoupage dried. It stays in pretty well. Ignore my crappy nails - my nail varnish was already chipping off and then it got covered in glue and paint and I had to take it all off anyway. I've just painted my nails again actually as I sit here typing. The exact same colour in fact because that's what's sat on my desk and I can't be bothered to find a different colour even though I have about 50 nail varnishes in my drawer. But this one is a new one. It's from No7 and it's called 'porcini'. Like the mushroom I presume. Who doesn't want fungus coloured nails? Anyway I quite like it. I probably shouldn't have bought another on when I have about 50, but I had to buy a second No7 item to get a free gift set (full of beauty products I also don't need but for some reason couldn't resist). If you're wondering what the first item was (you're probably not) it was some face powder. I allowed the No7 consultant to upsell me to this 'amazing' new translucent powder that has an airbrushing effect. Yes, like photoshop, but in real life! I don't really look airbrushed when I put it on. Just sort of, well, powdery. But at least it's not orange like my last one - because, wait, it's translucent! So might as well not be there really. Sometimes I wish I could put all my makeup in the bin and never bother again. I reckon I spend 10 minutes a day putting makeup on and 1 minute taking it off. Not that much by the sounds of it, but that's nearly an hour and 20 minutes a week putting it on and taking it off again. That's 5.33 hours a month. That's 2.66 days a year. That's 133.33 days of the rest of my life (assuming I just can't be bothered any more when I'm 80). What else could I have done in 133 days apart from put stuff on my face and take it off again...? But I'll probably just carry on since I don't want to deal with the lack of self esteem that results from wearing no makeup. I'd probably have wasted those 133 days in extra hours of sleep anyway. Where was I?? Eggs.

At some point I got a grip and finished my eggs. As I mentioned on Instagram (you may or may not have seen it - if you'd like to follow me on Instagram my page is here), I hung the eggs randomly on a plant in my conservatory. That's about as much effort as I'm willing to put into Easter, apart from stuffing my face with chocolate.
